A fundraising party has helped slide some funds toward a new playground for Takapuna Primary School on Auckland’s North Shore.
The school’s old playground had to be dismantled last year to make way for a new building – a block of 10 new classrooms.
The block, designed to increase capacity and replace some old prefab classrooms, was set to be finished later this year.
But the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) was been left with the task of raising about $125,000 for a new playground.

The hard task was made pleasant with a “Shake, Rattle and Roll” FUNdraising Party at a house on Takapuna Beach on April 1.
The weather cooperated for the night and the event was attended by about 200 parents, friends and sponsors, who enjoyed playing games and dancing to a live band.
The party, combined with an online auction which ran for two weeks, managed to raise $30,000, thanks to generous donations from the local community.
The next fundraising event will be a school fair on November 4.
Anyone who is able to help the school is encouraged to contact principal Cindy Walsh or the PTA on firstname.lastname@example.org.
